  • First meeting to discuss possibility of another Lutheran high school in the Twin Cities area. Dave/Lanita Farstad, Jim/Bev Pearson, Ed Sorgatzs, Wayne Loefflers, Ray Schmidts met at Farstad’s home

9/78
  • Survey of potential students conducted. Association members voted overwhelmingly to proceed with Planning Phase

8/26/79
  • School opening and installation service for teachers held at Cross Lutheran Church in Rockford. 
  • 1st pork chop BBQ done by Duane and Rita Beise and Bill and Caroline Bechtold. 
  • Due to rain storm that day, the chops had to be grilled in Pastor Robert Kant’s garage!
  • Full-time: Sharon Gieseke, Adair Moldenhauer
  • Part-time: Jan Nelson, Leonard Rogness, Pastor Iver Johnson, Pastor Thomas Westendorf
  • Volunteers: An active volunteer program began

9/79
  • School begins with complete staff in temporary quarters at Rockford.
  • Enrollment is 12 (seven in grade 10 and five and grade 9)
  • Paul Boecher designed the West logo

  • Jim Wooster, third full time instructor installed
  • Deloris Jensen sets up library

  • Facilities in former Central Junior High School in St. Louis Park leased

  • School begins with complete staff
  • Full-time: Moldenhauer, Gieseke, Wooster
  • Part-time: Pastor Michael Mulinix, Pastor Marvin Hanke, Lauralee Elness, Jan Nelson, Lois Wilmo
  • Staff: Marie Bendeich, secretary
  • Enrollment including 17 freshmen totals 31
  • The first basketball teams took the floor in 1980.
  • The first Drama Club play was performed under the direction of Kathy Boecher.
  • Twenty-five acres of land were purchased in Medina in 1980, but was sold later.

  • Relocated to Eisenhower Community Center in Hopkins
  • Faculty:   Added Doran Fischer, 6 full-time and 2 part-time

  • Purchased 7 ¼ acres of land at 3500 Harbor Lane N, Plymouth
  • Initiated “Building a Foundation for Life” Capital Campaign

  • Board votes to proceed with construction of 25,000 sq. ft. facility

  • Groundbreaking service was held

  • Students pick up rocks to help clear building site

  • Moved into our first permanent facility at 3350 Harbor Ln N with an enrollment of 107

  • Board votes to expand present facility by adding 14,000 sq ft

  • WLHS was recognized as one of the exemplary WELS Lutheran high schools through the Ministry in Lutheran High School Recognition Program sponsored by AAL

  • The “Growing in Christ” Capital Campaign got underway for the phase one building expansion.
  • 20th Anniversary Service, Dr. Dan Schmeling speaker

  • Minnesota Nonpublic School Accrediting Association (MNSAA) granted full accreditation

  • Pastor Freddy Krieger resigns for health reasons 
  • Shirley Pick retires after 21 years as Administrative Assistant

  • Completed the second level of the new addition.  Includes two classrooms, fitness center, learning coordinator office, and bathrooms

  • 1st West football game at Spring Grove

  • First football homecoming game held at Holy Angels HS football field

  • Brenda Glodowski retires after serving West Lutheran for 20 years

  • Mr. Steve Merten is appointed Vice principal for academic affairs
  • Merl Meitner, the principal-administrator assumes the additional duties of Director of Mission advancement
  • The Debt of Love Capital Campaign to reduce the debt will be initiated
  • Rev. Mark Neitzel will serve the school as Dean of Students - Vice-prinicpal for student affairs
